Style Gone Social: Holidays Leaderboard Update
With only a few hours left of voting, we’re starting to see a clear front runner emerge. Although there has been some back and forth, Jes Switaj has pulled ahead of Baily Belle’s Vanessa Hotchkiss. Foamy Wader’s Alexa Allamano remains in third place.
Not all that many votes separate the contestants, so if you’re favorite isn’t in the lead, you can still help them...
Style Gone Social: Holidays Leaderboard Day Two
Voting for the Final Challenge of Style Gone Social: Holidays has been open for over twenty-four hours now, and we still don’t have a clear leader yet!
Jes Switaj is just starting to break away from Vanessa Hotchkiss of Baily Belle, but it’s still too close to call. Alexa Allamano of Foamy Wader is still bringing up the rear although she is quickly gaining on Switaj and Hotchkiss.

A Look At Bhon's Mood Board
Here at Closetista, we’re major nerds when it comes to mood boards. Whenever we get a chance, we love taking a look at a designer’s inspirations for the season and seeing how they’ve transformed ephemeral ideas like “water” or “first love” into actual garments and accessories.
Bhon is no different, and designers Patty and Christine Yoon were kind enough...
A Moment with Hunter NY
In the time of big, over-the-top statement jewelry, there’s something quiet nice about a small, delicate piece. The tiny pins and slim chain necklaces created by Jennifer Monzon and David Ansvananda for Hunter NY are a true breath of fresh air thanks not only to their compact size but also their timeless look. We chatted with Monzon and Ansvananda about their inspirations, what it’s...

A Moment with Yvonne Potter of Britannia Antiques
The Closetista team clearly loves jewelry, so it was a real treat to have Yvonne Potter of Britannia Antiques share her incredible vintage finds with us. Potter has been in the business since she was a child thanks to her mother’s work as an antiques dealer on the legendary Portobello Road in London. Unsurprisingly, she’s amassed a considerable amount of knowledge over the years, and...
A Moment with Aviva Kleiner of Heart Felt
If you couldn’t tell already, the Closetista team really loves hair accessories. If it’s sparkly, feathery, and generally fabulous we are immediately entranced. Chicago-based designer Aviva Kleiner was with us in the studio recently, and we had the chance to chat with the talented designer about headbands, fascinators, and everything in between.
Where do you get your ideas for...
Friday News Roundup
This week felt plenty long (ok, it was mostly just that terrible rainy Wednesday that ruined our hair), but now that it’s Friday, we can’t believe how quickly it went by! Here’s a roundup of things that we loved, and some things you might have missed:
We’re now featuring pieces from Mixology NYC! PR whiz Alison Hessert’s line is terribly glam, and we have three...
Studio Visit with We Are Here's Emilie Shapiro
We’re total nerds when it comes to jewelry, so when we had the opportunity to visit We Are Here designer Emilie Shapiro’s studio in Brooklyn we jumped at the chance. Taking a break from the height of Fashion Week madness on a bright and balmy day in September, we took a trip to Shapiro’s space.
In between talking about business and how awesome Florence is, she gave us a...
FancySexyMe's Favorite Piece
“Our favorite piece is the Chevron Necklace. It was inspired by and re-ceated from a part of a belt buckle from my Grandfather’s metal collection (he was a tailor in NYC). This piece is both vintage and modern, and has an Art Deco feel. We combined both gold and silver finishes for additional depth and dimension, which also makes this easy to wear with your other jewelry...
Upcoming Designers For This Week
This week we have three exciting designers that we can’t wait to share with you as well as Closetista’s very first vintage dealer! Whether your style is totally modern or utterly romantic, you’re bound to find a piece or two that you can’t live without. We’ve got two talented designers and one vintage maven for you at the beginning of the week. On Tuesday October 11...
A Moment with Angela Barrow of Cheek.ie
It’s not often you meet a designer who happens to be a stylist and a musician to boot. Angela Barrow of Cheek.ie not only designs her fun line of fabric based jewelry but also finds time to style for big name clients and jam with not one but two bands. Makes us feel positively lethargic by comparison! We sat down with Barrow to discuss her interesting and varied career from her days at...
20 Questions with Anuja Tolia
We love playing 20 questions with our designers, we just never know what they might say. This week, we’ve got Anuja Tolia who gamely answered our never-ending string of fashion-y questions.
You can shop all of Tolia’s gorgeous pieces here, and of course, don’t forget to check out her video (in case you missed it last week).
1.) Favorite designer of all time? I don’t...

Emily Kammeyer's Favorite Piece
“This piece makes a statement! I’m absolutely in love with peacock feathers and this is the Pièce de résistance. When worn at the back of the head it looks like the plume of a peacock but with a very vintage art deco vibe. It has everything I look for in a hair accessory: originality, style, and a wow factor.”
You can shop the stunning Peacock Feather with Vintage...
A Moment with Emily Kammeyer
We’re always fascinated by designers’ methods and inspirations, and E. Kammeyer Accessories designer Emily Kammeyer is no exception. We had the pleasure of chatting with the talented hair accessories designer about her work, the royal wedding’s impact on hats and fascinators, and much more.
Don’t forget, you can shop Kammeyer’s collection right here. We love the...
Upcoming Designers For This Week

Friday News Roundup
It’s supposed to rain all weekend here in NYC, but there was plenty of good stuff about the week too. Here’s some of our favorite things about this week, and some things you may have missed:
We had our live broadcast with Emily Kammeyer of E. Kammeyer Accessories on Wednesday. We love all of her pretty pretty hair pieces, including these studded headbands (which are exclusive to...
Aminimal's Favorite Piece
Yesterday we shared Bita Pourtavoosi’s favorite piece from her collection with you, and today we’re sharing Aminimal’s fave. We asked which piece Svetlana Blum, one half of the Aminimal design team, loved best and here’s what she had to say:
“My favorite piece in the Field Series is the Ribbon Ring because it was the first piece I created. I was experimenting a...
Bita Pourtavoosi's Favorite Piece
It’s inevitable that every designer has at least one or two favorite pieces they love above all others. For Bita Pourtavoosi, the very first piece she ever created remains at the top of her list. Here’s what she had to say about the statement-making Big Chunk of Stone Ring.
“It was back in college, our third project ever. The project had to do with learning how to make...
A little video… getting to know jewelry designer Bita Pourtavoosi
A Moment with Aminimal
Fashion doesn’t typically spring from the wells of scientific experiment; you’re much more likely to find images of Babe Paley dotting the inspiration boards of designers than illustrations of magnetic fields. But not so with Aminimal. The design team of Svetlana Blum and John Briscella use their background in industrial design to construct pieces with a distinctly architectural...
Upcoming Designers For This Week
This week we’re bringing you two new and exciting designers. One makes gloriously opulent jewelry inspired by her Indian heritage, the other makes fabulous be-feathered hair accessories perfectly suited to any royal (or normal) wedding.
On Wednesday September 21 at 1:30pm EDT we’ll be live with Megha Jain of Taara Jewelry. Her beautiful creations feature classic enamel inlays and...
20 Questions with Bita Pourtavoosi
You’ve heard of the Proust questionnaire, that famed test that is supposed to reveal your deepest, most true self. Well, here at Closetista, we’ve come up with a fashion spin on the simple Q&A. First up is jewelry designer Bita Pourtavoosi.
Pourtavoosi has been steadily carving out her niche in the bridge jewelry market for the last three years, and her super glam designs have...
Friday News Roundup
It’s been a busy week here at Closetista. Between interviewing potential interns and getting back on our regular filming schedule, we’ve barely had a moment to stop and catch a breath. Here are a few of the things we loved about the week, and what you may have missed:
Bita Pourtavoosi and Aminimal are our first new brands of the season. It was a true pleasure working with both of...
Sneak Peeks

Before our live broadcasts, we’ll be revealing sneak peeks of the pieces that will be for sale. Can’t find it on Twitter, and it won’t be here on Tumblr either. If you’re dying to...

Friday News Roundup
It’s been a busy week, and to think we kicked it off with a holiday weekend. Labor Day already feels lightyears away. But such is the fashion cycle! Here’s a roundup of things that happened this week that we loved and that you may have missed:
Style Gone Social: Accessories ended with a bang at our event Tuesday night. Check out Runway Passport’s recap of the goings on with...
And The Winner Is...
It was a tough battle, but someone had to win. Not that it was easy. Hena Chun and Daniel Chung of hena et daniel emerged victorious despite earthquakes, hurricanes, evacuations, holiday weekends, and pre-fashion week madness. It was anyone’s game though, Danielle Guercio of Deschain came on strong till the very end (literally the very end, we weren’t sure who would win only minutes...
The 2012 Must Have Accessory Challenge
And then there were two. The 2012 Must Have Accessory Challenge wasn’t easy for either of our talented designers, but both triumphed against the clock in the end to give you two very different neckwear options. It’s up to you to determine who will take home the grand prize though.

Announcing Our Two Finalists
It was a tough battle, and it did get really interesting towards the end. We weren’t sure who was going to make it to the finale even a few moments before voting ended! But after a tight race, we are left with two finalists and we couldn’t be more excited for them. Our talented designers are Danielle Guercio, the brain behind Deschain, and Hena Chun and Daniel Chung, the style mavens...

As always, you can vote by...
Videos and Shopping for the Green Challenge
Kermit may lament that it isn’t easy being green; however, that was the least of our designer’s worries this weekend. After Hurricane Irene, the Closetista team and our remaining Style Gone Social: Accessories designers had to contend with a number of problems from evacuations to technical difficulties. Instead of throwing in the towel and hunkering down with a pile of hurricane...

Style Gone Social: Accessories Round Two
After a very close and exciting race, five designers broke away from the pack and will be moving on to the Second Challenge. What is this second challenge you may wonder? Whether they use found vintage pieces or ethically produced fabrics is up to them, we want them to show just how easy being green can be. The designers...
